Rocks

I once heard a theory

that rocks are alive

and that they actually move.

Their pace is ancient and slow

so they journey unnoticed.

I sent the kids to college

and paid all of my bills.

I was never meant to marry

and I've seen just about everything

I care to see.

So I can sit out here in the garden

and watch these tricky rocks.

I keep my eyes peeled

and listen to the ground.
